The 4th APIRA Member Conference was held successfully in Cyberjaya , Malaysia

The 4th APIRA Member Conference was held successfully in Cyberjaya , Malaysia during August 7 to 9, 2007, which was hosted by Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

 

There were nearly 100 member representatives and local scholars present in the meeting. Mr. Cho Chan-Hyeong, t he Chair of APIRA handed over the membership certificates to the two new members – Internet Marketing Council of Korea (IMCK) and Yahoo Southeast Asia ( Singapore ) respectively.

In the two-day general membe meeting, 24 study papers and research reports were presented covering the areas of macroscopic development status and trend of the Internet, the segmented utilization of the Internet, the social influences of the Internet, the Internet-oriented research methods and etc

From the end of 2006 to the beginning of 2007, APIRA organized China (including Hong Kong , Macao and Taiwan ), South Korea and Malaysia to carry out a survey on the respective domestic Internet users' online behavior using the same core questionnaire at the same time. Based on the statistical information from these member organizations, Dr. Zhang Rongxian (Angus, WH Cheong) from University of Macao completed a comparison report on joint survey, which attracts great attention from meeting participants. In addition, the APIRA joint survey report which edited and printed by APIRA secretariat CNNIC gained wide recognitions for its refined quality and rich authoritative data

This joint survey report clearly indicates that, the Internet development of each country and region in Asia-Pacific area has its own tracks and characteristics: using mobile phone access Internet is more popular in South Korea and Taiwan, China, accounting for forty percent and thirty percent of the total population of Internet users respectively; Chinese mainland and South Korea have higher proportion of Internet users surfing in Internet cafe; and in Chinese mainland there is a higher proportion of younger users, which is still significant even when compared with the Internet developed countries.
