University of Macau

The University of Macau was founded in 1981 with the former name of the University of East Asia (UEA). In 1991, under a new University Charter, the University became the public University of Macau. Today, the University has the Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Education, the Center of Continuing Studies and Special Programs, the Center for Pre-University Studies and the English Language Center. The University offers undergraduate, Master’s and doctorate programs. More than 5000 students are registered currently. The Department of Communication

The Department of Communication at the University of Macau is one of the departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSH). It was established in 2004 by combining the former English and Chinese Communication programs. It offers both theoretical and professional trainings in the areas of journalism, advertising, public relations, video production, mass communication, new media and intercultural communication. Some of the major research projects by the faculty members include Internet research, social change and media use, oral press history, and web-based journalism. The participation in APIRA is one of the major Internet research activities that aim to improve research in the local area and to foster international collaboration.
