City
University of Hong Kong
City University is one of eight publicly funded universities
in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the
People's Republic of China. Founded in 1984, it now
has a student population of 18,000 and offers more than
100 academic programs in a wide range of disciplines.
Department
of English and Communication
The
department is divided into two sections: English and
Communication. The Communication section involves teaching
and research on mass media, new media technology, cross-cultural
communication, business communication and other areas.
Jonathan
Zhu:
He
received Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Indiana University
(USA) in 1990 and had taught at Fudan University (China)
and University of Connecticut before joining Department
of English and Communication at City University of Hong
Kong in 1995 where he founded the MA Program in Communication
and New Media (http://newmedia.cityu.edu.hk).
He is currently president of Chinese Communication Association
(http://sjmc.umn.edu/cca)
, member of editorial boards for Communication Research
(SUA), International Journal of Public Opinion Research
(UK), and Asian Journal of Communication (Singapore).
He was also a guest editor of the 2002 special issue
on Asia-Pacific of Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication
(USA).
